Accessibility, Safety and Health Policy – Four Senses
Four Senses is committed to offering an inclusive, safe, and healthy experience to all its visitors.
This policy outlines the efforts implemented both at the physical location and on the Four Senses website to ensure accessibility, safety, and health, in line with the highest compliance standards.
1. Accessibility
1.1. Target Audience and Eligibility
The experience is suitable for:
Adults and teenagers aged 12 and above
Children between 6 and 12 years old, accompanied by an adult
Elderly individuals, provided they are in suitable physical condition
People with disabilities, provided they can participate independently or with a responsible companion
⚠️ For safety reasons, this experience is not recommended for:
Individuals with heart conditions
Individuals with severe claustrophobia
Pregnant women
Participants with specific medical needs must inform the team at the time of booking.
1.2. Facilities and Physical Accessibility
Four Senses is committed to ensuring the physical space is accessible to most visitors.
The reception, transition areas, and experience rooms have been designed with accessibility in mind.
⚠️ Current limitation: the experience is not adapted for wheelchair users.
1.3. Available Languages
Visits are conducted in Portuguese by default.
They are also available in English, French, and Spanish, upon prior booking and subject to availability.
The preferred language must be indicated during the reservation.
1.4. Group Bookings
For school, corporate, or organized groups:

The form collects details such as number of participants, ages, and special needs
The team will follow up to confirm availability and provide support in organizing the session
2. Safety
2.1. Space Monitoring and Protection
The reception, transition areas, and experience rooms are monitored by security cameras to ensure participant safety.
While cameras are present in the experience rooms, the recordings are used strictly for internal safety purposes and will not be used for marketing or any other purpose.
2.2. Emergency Exits
The experience rooms do not have directly accessible emergency exits.
If an incident requires a participant to leave the room, the team will initiate the safety protocol, escorting the person to a designated safe area for immediate assistance, and then to the emergency exit.
The rest of the group should remain in the room. Lights will not be turned on except in extremely specific situations and only under the guide’s instruction to ensure everyone’s safety.
2.3. Safety Equipment
The venue is equipped with:
Fire extinguishers in strategic areas
First aid kits available at the reception
2.4. Personal Equipment
To ensure total darkness—an essential element of the experience—no light-emitting devices are allowed, such as:
Mobile phones
Light-up watches
Flashlights
Other electronic devices that could affect the immersive experience
There are lockers available at reception to store participants’ belongings safely.
Participants must keep the lanyard with the corresponding locker key with them at all times during the experience.
Four Senses is not responsible for any belongings left in the lockers in the event of a lost key.
3. Health
3.1. Physical Condition of Participants
It is recommended that participants be in good physical and mental health to enjoy the experience.
Pregnant individuals or those with specific medical conditions (e.g., heart issues, severe claustrophobia, etc.) should consult their doctor before attending and inform the team at the time of booking so that necessary precautions can be taken.
3.2. Hygiene and Cleaning
The facilities are cleaned regularly to ensure a safe and healthy environment.
Shared equipment, such as walking canes, is sanitized between sessions.
4. Code of Conduct
4.1. Punctuality
Participants must arrive 15 minutes before the start of the session.
Late arrivals may result in loss of reservation without refund.
4.2. Expected Behavior
Participants must:
Strictly follow the guides’ instructions
Remain silent when required by the guide
Respect the sensory environment and other participants
Avoid disruptive or offensive behavior
The use of light-emitting devices (e.g., mobile phones, watches) is strictly prohibited during the experience to preserve its essence.
4.3. Prohibited Substances
It is strictly prohibited to:
Smoke illicit substances before the experience
Consume alcohol before the experience
Use illicit substances before or during the experience
5. Emergency Management
5.1. Incident Procedures
If an incident requires a participant to leave the room, the team will initiate the safety protocol, escorting the participant to a designated safe area and then to the emergency exit.
Lights will not be turned on unless absolutely necessary and only under the guide’s instruction, to ensure both sensory immersion and safety.
All rooms are equipped with emergency alarms connected to a Security Control Centre, ready to alert the appropriate authorities for a timely and effective response.
5.2. Panic Situations
In case of discomfort or panic, participants may request help from the guide, who will assist them to a safe area.
6. Bookings and Participation
6.1. Advance Booking
It is recommended to book in advance via website, email, or phone due to limited session capacity
Each session has a maximum capacity of 6 participants
For school, corporate, or special group sessions, a specific form is available to schedule exclusive sessions upon request
6.2. Required Information
At the time of booking, participants must provide:
Full name
Age
Email address
Phone number
Total number of participants (maximum of 6 per session)
6.3. Pre-Visit Recommendations
Wear comfortable clothing
Avoid strong perfumes that may interfere with the sensory experience
7. Inclusion and Diversity
7.1. Inclusive Participation
Four Senses fosters an inclusive environment for people of all ages, genders, backgrounds, religions, and physical conditions.
The experience is open to people with disabilities, provided they can participate independently or with a companion.
The companion must purchase their own ticket and is responsible for assisting the person during the entire experience.
The experience is led by guides with visual impairments or low vision, promoting empathy and awareness.
7.2. People with Disabilities
Blind or low vision participants are welcome, and the experience is adapted accordingly
For individuals with multiple disabilities, it is recommended to contact the team in advance to assess possible adaptations.
